FarmYield Ghana is set to launch the second phase of its One Youth One Acre initiative on Monday, April 27, 2026. The programme forms part of the organization’s commitment to building the next generation of young agriprenuers.

The programme, first introduced in 2025 with 10 participants, has been scaled up this year to include 20 young people. The One Youth One Acre programme is designed to train participants while addressing the critical barriers that often hinder youth in agriculture, most notably access to land, high-quality inputs, and consistent technical support.

Through the programme, FarmYield Ghana will allocate one acre of farmland to each participant under a structured block farming system in Balungu in the Talensi District of the Upper East Region.

Selected participants will receive inputs such as seeds, fertilisers, and herbicides, alongside mechanisation services and continuous agronomic support throughout the six-month-long farming season, which runs from May to November.

According to FarmYield Ghana’s Agronomist, Barikisu Iddrisu, the initiative is focused on building not just farmers, but agripreneurs.

“The goal is to develop self-reliant agripreneurs by equipping young people with the skills, resources, and support they need to succeed in agriculture,” she said.

Beyond field support, beneficiaries will undergo training in good agronomic practices, climate-smart farming, business management, and record-keeping, complemented by mentorship and empowerment programmes.

The initiative will also seek to strengthen market access for participants by linking them to aggregation centres, ensuring they are able to sell their produce at fair and competitive prices.

“This is a sustainable and scalable model for youth-led agricultural development that can improve incomes, increase food production, and reduce rural-urban migration,” Ms. Iddrisu added.

Interest in the One Youth One Acre programme has grown significantly, with 115 applications received this year. 66 applicants were males, while 49 were females. Of the total applications, 34 applicants were from the Upper East Region, while 81 applied from other parts of the country and various countries within the African continent.

20 participants have been selected for the 2026 cohort.

The expansion of the One Youth One Acre initiative underscores the FarmYield Ghana’s commitment to building a new generation of farmers and transforming agriculture into a sustainable and profitable venture for young people in Ghana.
